Drilling rig associated injuries and deaths are a continuing concern and focus of drilling equipment contractors and oil companies.

MastThe most common hazards include slips and falls during climbing, failing to secure a safety harness and being struck by pipes. Rules, regulations and laws governing the exposure of employees to risk are burdening the same contractors and oil companies with liabilities that go beyond the tragedy of an accident.

The following lost time injury (LTI) and recordable statistics obtained from International Association of Drilling Contractors Association (IADC) illustrates some of the more common hazards faced by the drilling industry.
